Writer/Producer Koji Steven Sakai is the founder of Little Nalu Pictures LLC. He has written seven feature films that have been produced, including, most recently, The Commando, a feature film starring Michael Jai White and Mickey Rourke. He also produced five feature films; a one-hour comedy special on Starz, Comedy InvAsian, a television series featuring the nation’s top Asian American comedians; and Brash Girls Club, a limited comedy series which premiered on Tubi TV. Koji’s debut novel, Romeo & Juliet Vs. Zombies (paperback/audiobook); his graphic novel, 442 (online and in print); his newest novel, Zombie Run (print and ebook); and his newest graphic novel, Santa Vs. Zombies, was released in print this past winter. In addition to his writing, he produces and hosts three podcasts; Guy Code; Best OR Worst Podcast with M. Martin Mapoma; and Midnight Watchers with Quentin Lee and Jennifer Field. He is currently a screenwriting instructor at UCLA Extensions, New York Film Academy in Burbank, and Chapman University.

Romeo Vs. Zombies Synopsis

Excited to see R&J Vs. Zombies on Goodreads and with a full synopsis. Here it is:

“Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we raise our dead.”

Romeo — the only heir to the Montague name, a socialite who dreams of making a name for himself as a playwright and the consummate lover; he seems just as famous for his kissing skills as he is infamous for his inability to do much of anything else.

Juliet — Capulet heiress, born soldier; in most every way, the precise opposite of Romeo. She’s spent her entire life trying to find some way out of her insufferable life as a noblewoman, and so far she’s had precious little luck.

When a black plague breaks out in the city of Verona, these two feuding families are met with far more trouble than a mere feud, no matter how longstanding and bloody that feud has been. In this grim reimagining of Shakespeare’s most famous tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet must form an unlikely alliance if they ever intend to survive being overrun by a horde of ravenous, flesh-seeking un-dead.

Upcoming Publication of Romeo and Juliet vs. Zombies by Koji Sakai

*Exciting news! 🙂 I’ve been working on this for the last few weeks. Very very very stressful writing, but fun!

F.W. Fife is pleased to announce the upcoming publication of Romeo and Juliet vs. Zombies, by Koji Sakai.  This is a brilliant and exciting adaptation of the Shakespeare play, but with the added layer of zombie outbreak.  Sakai is an extremely talented writer, although, in truth, the editors would recommend this work on the premise alone!

Verona is in the throes of an ongoing blood-fued between the Montague and Capulet families.  Prince Escalus, ruler of the ancient city state, has forbidden any further episodes of fighting – on pain of death.  Lovelorn Romeo, a Montague, and the lovely Juliet, a Capulet, meet one evening at a masked ball.  Marriage is soon decided upon, though its implications for the feuding families is anything but certain.

Meanwhile, however, the malevolent Friar Lawrence has his own plans for mischief.  As a result of secret researches, Lawrence has found a way to reanimate the dead.  Verona’s nemesis unleashes a zombie plague upon the city.  Foremost members of the two families – the noble Benvolio, Paris, and Tybalt – must contend with this new and deadly foe.  Romeo and Juliet must fight for their families’ honor, and for their lives.  We will not say too much more about the outcome, except that it shall be deemed synonymous with excitement.  Readers will have an anxious wait until May, 2014, when Romeo and Juliet vs. Zombies first becomes available!
